'Fox News Republican Presidential Debate': Rick Perry Compares Himself To Tim Tebow (VIDEO)

Perry: I'm The Tim Tebow Of The Race

Rick Perry isn't leading in the polls, but that didn't stop him from comparing himself to one of the NFL's most exciting young players at the 'Republican Presidential Debate' (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on Fox News). Saying that he was beginning to enjoy the GOP's frequent debates, Perry addressed those who don't think he's equipped for the job of U.S. president.

"There are a lot of folks who said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback. There are people who stood up and said, 'Well, he doesn't have the right throwing mechanisms,'" Perry said. "He won two national championships and that looked pretty good. We were the national champions in job creation back in Texas."

He then told the crowd: "I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses!" While the country and his own staff remain divided over his anti-gay "Strong" ad that's running in Iowa, it remains to be seen how the state will respond to it at the polls. The Iowa caucus will be the first of the election season, on Jan. 3, 2012.
